Located just blocks from downton Gaylord, the park offers many different paths to enjoy your quiet sport of choice or benches to sit and enjoy the view. If mountain biking is more to your liking then that too can be done in Aspen Park on one of the "dirt" trails developed in cooperation with the Northern Mid-Michigan Chapter of Michigan Mountain Biking Association. Featuring 100 acres of woods, paved and unpaved trails, tennis courts and some of the best scenery in Northern Michigan. Aspen Park is a year-round park! During the winter you can enjoy the groomed cross country ski trails or set off on a pair of snowshoes to enjoy the beautiful winter scenes.

High Country Pathway - 9 miles north of Atlanta - 70 miles. The pathway is a 70 mile loop extended eastward from the heart of the Pigeon River Country in Otsego County into the Atlanta State Forest in Montmorency County and northwards up into southwest Presque Isle County and southern Cheboygan County through the heart of Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula. Herman Vogler Conservation Area [Hiking & Ski Trails], Off US 23 on Birchwood Drive, Rogers City, MI 49779, Phone: (989) 734-4000. The HVCA contains more than seven miles of trails, all used by hikers, cross-country skiers, hunters and nature lovers. Four main trails run along Trout River and are beginner, moderate and challenging. The trail system traces a path through a constantly changing blend of habitats that range from hardwood highlands to cedar thickets and marshes.

Huron Sunrise Trail [Biking & Hiking Trail], 292 S. Bradley Hwy, Rogers City C of C, Rogers City, MI 49779, Phone: (989) 734-2535. Stretching 10-miles north along Lake Huron from Rogers City, the Huron-Sunrise Trail is one of northern Michigan’s most beautiful. Built by the City of Rogers City, the all-asphalt trail ends in Hoeft State Park with plans for a two-mile extension to Forty Mile Point to the northwest. To the southeast, the long-term goal is to find a way through the Michigan Limestone Operations quarry to a railroad right of way called the Rogers City Spur and a link to the Alpena to Mackinaw City Trail. The Huron Sunrise Trail has many amenities in town and in the state park. On the north side of town is the Vogler Conservation Area, a 270 acre forested property that also includes seven additional miles of trails mostly for hiking or mountain biking.

AuSable State Forest, Grayling, MI 49738, Phone: (989) 348-6371. 11.5 mile groomed ski, hike trail. Non-motorized area on the South Branch of the AuSable River. 15 miles east of Grayling. Ranging in length from 2 7/10 mi. to 11 3/10 mi. Recommended to ski or hike with a buddy... some sections of this trail are a considerable distance from the nearest plowed road. Very scenic, remote, quiet area! Near Canoe Harbor State Forest Campground.

Michigan Shore-to-Shore Riding & Hiking Trail - Au Sable -220 miles. Trail stretches west from Au Sable on Lake Huron to Empire on Lake Michigan. Used by hikers and horse riders. Easy, scenic hike through river valleys, meadows and forests. Marked pathway varies from forest trail to paved roads. Frequent campgrounds. Northern spur from Grayling to Elk Hill. Negwegon State Park [Hiking Trails], Sandhill Road, Black River, MI 48721, Phone: (989) 724-5126. Negwegon State Park is a rustic, undeveloped area open for hunting and hiking. The terrain is a mixture of low land areas, with small ridges, to mature pine forest, with some hardwoods and aspen forest, with some pockets of open meadows mixed in.

Has nice scenery with woods to decrease the wind chill. This novice trail is nearly flat on all but the "Whopping Loop" which has some small hills.

Reid Lake Foot Travel Area [Hiking & Cross-county Skiing], Hwy M-72 & Kohler Road, Barton City, MI 48705, Phone: (989) 739-0728 - 18 miles west of Harrisville on M-72. A back-country recreation experience within a working forest environment. Once part of a northern Michigan farm, this 3,000 acre tract includes forested uplands, swamp hardwoods, beaver impoundments, marsh and open lake areas. Wildlife abounds including deer, turkey, beaver, birds and fish. Six miles of gently rolling trail will lead you around Reid Lake. Can be used for skiing in winter. Southeast corner of area is a research natural area.

Thompson's Harbor State Park - Situated along seven and a half miles of rugged Lake Huron shoreline, this undeveloped 5000 acre park provides a rustic retreat for hikers exploring the park's six miles of trails. Most of the beach is limestone cobble. Three marked, easy, ungroomed trails running in the woods and along Lake Huron. Peaceful and quiet setting. The park is adjacent to the Presque Isle harbor. Wakely Lake Foot Travel Area [Biking, Hiking & Ski Trails], M-72 West, Huron-Mainstee National Forest, Grayling, MI 49738, Phone: (989) 826-3252. A federally owned special area designed for the protection and restoration of the population of threatened loons and eagles. Vegetation varies from tag alder and conifer swamps to upland jack pine, white pine and oak. Fishing is catch and release only to maintain food supply for loons. Walk-in access and camping. With an extensive network of trails, it is a scenic, non-motorized area. Hiking, biking & ungroomed cross-country ski trails range in length from 4 1/2 miles to 7 miles. Loon nesting area closed to public from March 1 to July 1.
