The village of Lake stands between two large bodies of water, Perch Lake and Crooked Lake. Just a few miles west you will find beautiful Eight Point Lake. Winter finds the lakes covered with ice scanties by the cold weather anglers. The village began as a depot on the Pere Marquette Railroad, named Lake Station in 1877. Charles Howard Bates, the railroad agent, became the first postmaster on February 28, 1877, with the office named Crooked Lake, after the lake it lay beside. On March 11, 1909, the name of this village in Surrey Township was shortened to just Lake. The Lake area is that fine mixture of recreational fun, and a great getaway-from-it-all retreat and loaded with natural beauty in every season.
